It is hard to determine a responsible breeder and choose one person out of many, who claim to breed only super quality Boxers. Experienced dog owners and various shelters and rescues, which strive to diminish the number of Boxers with poor genetics, advise to ask questions concerning the breeder, his practice, and his dogs.
By doing this, one is sure to find out the extent of the breeder's devotion to the Boxer and his knowledge in the field of breeding and raising puppies.
Take it as a positive sign when being asked questions in return. A responsible breeder always cares about the future of his dogs and wants to find out as much as possible about the home his Boxers are going to live their entire life in.
It is also wise to ask breeders on health issues. Boxers are prone to such diseases as cardiomyopathy, hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and others. Some dogs can develop allergies and deafness. Deafness occurs mostly in white dogs. This condition is linked to coat color and involves inheritance factors. Boxers tend to live up to fourteen years old. To provide necessary care, ask breeders for advice and assistance.
Purebred dogs are usually eligible for registering with bred clubs and organizations. Club membership is an important step in raising Boxers. Club members usually have access to breed information and receive reliable advice from experienced owners. Club membership also allows Boxers to take part in club-sanctioned events and earn titles.
