Boxer Dogs

Boxer Dogs have gained glory shortly after their appearance. These dogs possess a phenomenal ability of melting peoples’ hearts, even those who have never shown liking to dogs. Boxers are convivial and cheerful playmates by nature, and they never display unmotivated aggression. Boxer puppies are usually hyperactive, and lack of activity can make them rowdy and destructive.

The Boxer Dog possesses a unique appearance, presenting a perfect combination of grace, power and drive. Their infinite stamina, never-ebbing integrity and unswerving faithfulness make them reliable and devoted companions. Boxers are naturally protective and therefore somewhat reserved with strangers. For this reason, proper socialization is a must. Well socialized Boxer Dogs are tolerant of other pets in the house.

Boxer Dogs are great companions for children, but they should not be left around toddlers without attendance, because such a strong dog may accidentally knock a child over. Boxers also make good guard dogs, and they are often used as therapy dogs. The Boxer breed gets its name from its inclination to using their front legs in a characteristic “boxing” manner.

Boxer Dogs originated in Germany. They are believed to have been generated by the Brabanter Bullenbeisser, a large and heavily-set Molosser dog, which was used in dog fighting and bull-baiting until these activities were banned. Those early dogs were also adept at hunting large game, so they were popular among hunters for their determination, endurance and intelligence. The Brabanter Bullenbeisser is now extinct. Boxers received an official status in 1902 in Europe and in 1904 in the United States.

Boxers are medium-sized dogs, with a graceful standing and tough muscle. They measure 21-24 (females) and 22-25 (males) inches tall at the withers. These dogs feature square muzzles with prognathous jaws (i. e. the lower jaw goes a little beyond the upper jaw). Their jaws close in a firm scissors bite, which is the heritage of their fierce bull baiting ancestors. Usually, Boxers have fawn or brindle coat, which is short and smooth. The coat does not require too much grooming. Boxers should not be bathed too frequently, because this may lead to skin problems and allergies. Boxer Dogs can be prone to hip dysplasia, cardiomyopathy, cancer and eye problems, so puppies must be chosen with great care.
